Nabat Shir is a director and writer who looks with her heart and shoots with her soul. She considers it her mission in life to create films with a deep philosophical meaning. Her scripts and films are based on the concept of art for art's sake. Her visual philosophy as a filmmaker is to explore the ordinary in the strange and the strange in the ordinary and convey that through her films. She tells stories about women, firmly believing that the world needs more stories with a female voice and a female point of view. In her sci-fi short film When Mom Hugs (2023), where the action takes place in the near future and people use hologram video calls, she reflects on the topic that while on the one hand modern technologies help Caroline and her son located in different parts of the world to stay in touch, on the other hand, even these technologies cannot replace a real human hug for them.

Nabat Shir became the first Turkmen filmmaker to win a Fulbright Grant in 2021. She started her creative journey in 2016 by being a co-founder and director of ARGACH FILM Video and Photo Production Company in Turkmenistan. Some of her works include: The Secret of Success, a pilot for a talk show, and To Mother, a music video for famous Turkmen composer Rovshen Nepesov. In 2020, she participated in the 48 Hours Film Race as a director, producer, writer, and editor. Her short film Creator was nominated and included in the Top 48 best short films in the Central Asian region. She is currently pursuing her M.F.A. in Film and Television at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
